When sixteen, she returns to the family property, Warriewood, with a half-formed ambition to run it herself. Despite her name, Winter is warm-tempered and easily offended but experience has made her independent and suspicious. She sacks the incompetent and dishonest farm managers, falls half in love with a neighbour, begins to restore the farm and learns, painfully, the truth about the death of her mother. A short, eventful read. Orphaned at four-years-old, Australian sixteen-year-old Winter DeSalis returns to her childhood home in an attemptto find out about her dead parents and her own past. A short novel, but one that pulled me in from the first page. Winter's struggle to find out about her past and cope with her present is real and believable. Great characters, great scenes and the usual fine writing from one of my favourite YA authors.
