Today, I have finished Michael Crichton's State of Fear and I must say, wow, simply wow. My views have changed completely after reading this book. I think it might be one of my favorites this year. Crichton's ... I liked his earlier works better than the later ones, personally the only one of his I've read I found to be worse than State of Fear was Prey. Eaters of the Dead was great really enjoyed both Jurassic Park's ... works, believe his Timeline is matchless. His research behind his writings seems excellent. His latest works were not his best, I found prey to be particularly weak and timeline not much better. But State of fear asked reasonable questions about the hype surrounding MMGW, and more importantly, about why there is overblown hype, how governments function etc. Ditto ... ... author Michael Crichton died today at the age of 66. I'm surprised you didn't like State of Fear. I haven't read it yet, but my dad and one of my friends read it recently and they both LOVED it! ... Of course, I'm a hundred now, so that means I only read it once every 20 years or so.
The last Crichton I read was State of Fear which pretty much put me off Crichton forever.

Prey isn't a particularly good book in my opinion, but is a good starting point for a lot of discussion on Nano-tech and computing, topical issues often ... ... ... is going up a tiny amount, but only because big cities are Heat Islands (and, yes, markmobley, I did read about that in State of Fear, so I'm not going to laugh at you for bringing it up ;-) , although I've come across the idea elsewhere too). He also logs some good resources in the back of the book if you want the "real science". ... is first and foremost a money making machine, he should get some credit for taking on the global warming fanatics in State of Fear and the politically correct gender warriors in Disclosure.
Finished State of Fear. Now I'm reading Parish Priest by Douglas Brinkley and Julie M. Fenster. Still slogging through The Oster Conspiracy, although it'll probably take until the end of this month to finish that one. I'm reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton right now. I'm not interested in environmental issues, but the way he tackles them and the controversy surrounding this book has for once made me curious instead of repelled by it. (I'm usually not interested in books that are hyped or receive a ... ... also have to admit that some of Michael Crichton's books (A Case of Need, Andromeda Strain, Airframe, and State of Fear are the ones I would put down) are thought-inspiring, if, perhaps, a bit "pseudo"-scientific or over the top. ... yet, will have to keep an eye out for future published books in the UK market.
Having finished Demons Don't Dream and state of fear I'm now onto princes of sandastre. Interesting but I'm not sure its interesting enough for me to hunt up the rest of the series. ... Demons Don't Dream partially because it's next on the TBR shelf! I'm also making my way through Michael Crichton's State of Fear for a bookgroup.
