I saw a long interview on tv last night, with Rory Stewart, author of The places in between and The prince of the marshes. What a man! I will try to find a link to the interview. In the meantime, this: http://www.turquoisemountain.org http://www.rorystewartbooks.com/rory_stewart.htm A ...

117. The Places in Between by Rory Stewart

Sorting by author in the "Your Library" view works for me. Although strangely on your library Places in Between by Rory Stewart is the first book in the list when sorted by author and then it looks as if the rest are in their proper alpha order.

110. Occupational Hazards by Rory Stewart. A very different book to The Places In Between, about his walk across Afghanistan, but equally gripping and well-written, and just as interesting, if for different reasons.

I recommend Rory Stewart's books, particularly The Places Between, about Afghanistan. In The Prince of the Marshes, Stewart describes his time in the British foreign service as part of the occupational government of Iraq. Of several books about the ongoing Iraq war, Anthony Shadid's Night Dr ...

No, I didn't think they were. But I was yet more interested in The Places in Between - which did sound better so far as writing went. Thank you, enevada, for both comments and link.

I've just finished The Places In Between and enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped. After being loaned Three Cups of Tea the story of a man walking across Afghanistan really appealed to me. In the end, it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. Stewart is a pretty good story ...

I'm working on The Places in Between, the non-fiction account of Rory Stewart's walk across Afghanistan just after the fall of the Taliban. It's a really absorbing book with tons of interesting cultural information and a good sense of humor. I think it would make good follow-up reading for ...

... style, but I think The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is a better memoir dealing with similar themes. Next up is The Places in Between, the non-fiction account of Rory Stewart's walk across Afghanistan.

Perhaps you would enjoy a non-fiction work by Rory Stewart, The Places in Between. This Scottish scholar of medieval Persian/Central Asian history (at least, I think that's his emphasis) walked from Herat to Kabul in early 2003 (!!!) and wrote a book about it. By the way, he took the scenic ...
