The Life And Times Of The Thunderbolt Kid - Bill Bryson Just finished The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir which was pretty enjoyable. A couple parts of the novel had me laughing out loud, but there were times when I felt no connection with what the author was writing about. This may be because I'm not part of the baby boomer generation ... The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid / Bill Bryson. ... thumb.
I noticed, in listening to the audiobook of Bill Bryson's memoir of growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, in the 1950s (The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid) that he (the book was read by the author) occasionally slipped into Anglicisms that were jarring in a memoir about the American Mi ... ... by Luc Sante, a history of early New York. Also, completely different, into the last few pages of Bill Bryson's The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, a tongue in cheek memoir of life in 1950's mid-America. ... and go back over some portions of it, and I consider myself a pretty advance reader.
I'm also about halfway through The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir by Bill Bryson for my bookclub. It's been pretty good for a chuckle, so I'm looking forward to completing it. I'm reading A short history of nearly everything. I already liked Bill Bryson after reading The life and times of the thunderbolt kid, I like him even more now.
Furthermore I'm reading a Ducth book: Arend, as I liked De engelenmaker. Also just started Het grote baggerboek, bought at ... #89 "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" by Bill Bryson
Mildly amusing personal memoir of growing up in Iowa in the 1950's. I was a teenager in the late 50's and early 60's so I related to much of his historical lore, but not all of it. I found it interesting that he was turned off ... #38 The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid - Bill Bryson
I enjoyed reading this book. I'm glad I discovered Bill Bryson and I have a feeling that I'd like to own all his books. Now reading The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid ... In short, I loved it...in greater depth, here's my review: http://readerville.wordpress.com
Currently reading: The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson I started The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson at the end of last week. I've read others of his books and loved them, but for some reason this one was annoying me at the beginning. I guess it was just a bit too much gross "boy" stuff. I know it's a rite of passage for ... ... I loved. This weekend I'm at the beach, so I'm going to do a read that I can pick up and put down - so it's going to be The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson. My husband got it for me for Mother's Day, so I figure it would be good to get to it. Two books read recently that made me laugh out loud were Wobegon Boy by Garrison Keillor and The Life And Times Of The Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir by Bill Bryson. 25. Wobegon Boy - Garrison Keillor
Truly a consummate story-teller. This book is even funnier than Bill Bryson's The Life And Times Of The Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir, funnier than David Sedaris's Me Talk Pretty One Day and Naked. The quirky Scandinavian characters fondly remind me of ... >18
Yes, that looks like a prime example.
On another note: I just finished reading Bill Bryson's The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. It's about an era, not about baseball specifically, but it contains a smart tribute to his father, who was a baseball writer, and a very good one. ... I'm reading Sleeping Over, by Stacey Ballis, and after that I have both Linda Fairstein's Bad Blood and The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson lined up. ... was no point where I cared at all about anyone in the book. But I did finish it and I'm glad I did.
Now I'm starting The life and times of the thunderbolt kid for something lighter after Never let me go. #1 Greyhead: I recently read Thunderbolt Kid and I really enjoyed it too. I'm not American nor was I born in the 50's or 60's so I found his commentary on the period/region as well as his childhood anecdotes enjoyable to read.
#2 Kell_Smurthwait: I hope you like Anne of Green Gables! It is ... ... La Plante not her best but a good page turner of a detective story none the less. Then Bill Bryson's autobiographical The life and times of the Thunderbolt Kid which was a delight, I was born just about at the same period and though, as far as I can recall, I've never been anywhere near Des ... I haven't read a Canadian book in a while actually.
