None. ZB5 Excellent book! Very good read. Good story of what people will do when pushed to their limits. Posits a scenario that is not too far from what we are dealing with now with terrorists. How far are we willing to go? How honest are we willing to be about it? Capt Patrick Hennessy is a man who asks himself that question and is willing to live the answer. No descriptions found. "Five hundred years from now, humankind has found a link to a remarkably Earth-like planet and settled there, dividing--as humans will--into dozens of nation-states. The Federated States of Columbia has consolidated power and risen against the oppression of Earth's corrupt Caliphate. But when Salafi madmen bent on a new jihad kill FSC Captain Patrick Hennessey's family in a cowardly attack, they create an enemy that will show even less mercy than they do. A legendary warrior is born: Carrera, the scourge of Salafism. He will forge an army from the decrepit remains of a military in a failing state. He will find those who killed his family. He will destroy them utterly. And he will try like hell to not becoming exactly like the enemy he is fighting. Only when he is finished will there be peace: the peace of an empty wind as it blows across a desert strewn with the bones of Carrera's enemies"--Publisher's description.… (more) |

Sorry folks. I was already irritated by story's erratic jumping around backflash forwardflash and by some episodes that suggested that full-blown misogyny might be on the horizon. I quit reading immediately Mr. Kratman incorporated the events of 11 September 2001 into the text verbatim: Muslims pilot airship into highrise building. Protagonist's lovely, pregnant wife, three children, and uncle jump to their deaths to avoid the flames. Protagonist watching scene on TV. Revolting.
Mr. Kratman's writing is good (except for the inability to handle narrative jumps cleanly) but I will not let him grind axes. (
