A well-researched story about the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia. Unfortunately, it's also a romance, and is therefore riddled with soap-opera cliches, but the background detail balances out the hormonal private life of the 'feisty' heroine (and she is actually labelled as such, thrice over).

The afterword by author Barbara Bickmore records that the medical emergencies fictionalised in her book are all based on real-life events, which not only makes at least half of the book realistic, but also testifies to the incredible service carried out by the RFDS. A fascinating, evocative, occasionally gruesome, often silly, but entirely enjoyable flying visit with the docs (and I even cared enough about one of the characters to be pleased with the romantic ending!) Good fun. ( )
