IT IS ALSOME ( )

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Age Appropriateness: Primary
Review: This book is a good example of realistic fiction because the narrative is a true depiction of life today. Conflicts in this book are situations that people face in real life. In this simple narrative, a small dog, Biscuit, and her owner help bring a little duck back to the pond to his family. They become friends and play with each other.
Media: This book is a good example of ink and wash because the characters are outlined in ink and filled in with watercolors. The illustrations are simple yet capture the text in a real manner. The colors blend well together. ( )

These books are very short, very repetitive, very predictable, very simple.

Great early readers.

They could also be great for toddlers and babies, who use that repetition to learn to speak, but they're written so simply that you'll be bored to tears after reading the book more than three times. And you can read these books several times in one sitting, they're that short.

Give them to your kid when they start reading and insist that THEY read the books - not you. Do not fall into the trap of reading them. Ever. If your kid is like the ones I know, they'll fall in love and you'll be trapped. ( )

We love Biscuit in our family and were happy to read more about this cute little dog!

I like the illustrations, but these are more geared towards a look-say method of learning to read. For most children, I recommend a phonics approach.
