In the conclusion of the Death Gate Cycle we happen to know who/what's Dog and who/what's that old befuddled wizard... A little bit too linear for my taste but still a great ending of a fantastic series. Until this, I thought the DragonLance Chronicles & Legends the best of Weis & Hickman, but I changed my mind.... :-) ( )

When I first began this series I don’t know what ending I was expecting, but The Seventh Gate was not it. Despite this however the stunning conclusion really managed to wrap up one of my favourite fantasy series of all time. With Haplo and Alfred both coming to terms with their own powers and foibles and discovering the “evil” inherent in both their races. The stunning climax and discovery of the wave and how it keeps the balance in the universe, not to mention Zifnab’s fabulous Star Wars reference. I honestly can’t think of a better conclusion to the series. ( )

Pre09:

So I actually read this one first. Stupid me. Still was a good read with fast paced action and epic feel. Read it again years later in the right order. Was even better with the back story to pull on.

Characters: Actually get a female!! Woohoo! Haplo Alfred and the X-dude are all great.
Plot: Holy cow that's a roller coaster.
Style: Starts epic and maintains the feel for the whole book. ( )

Unfortunately, the worst of the series - and that is tragic because I was hoping the ending would be strong. ( )

And into that gate they shall enter, and in that house they shall dwell, where there shall be no Cloud nor Sun, no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light, no noise nor silence, but one equal music, no fears nor hopes, but one equal possession, no foes nor friends, but one equal communion and identity, no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity. --John Donne, XXVI Sermons
