... felt this book was a bit on the slow side in some parts. Very glad I read it though and I've heard even better things about In Defense of Food and plan to read that one in 2010. In the interest of helping myself reach 75 for the year, I amended my list of January reads. I originally hadn't ...

#63 - It may have been part of In Defense of Food. This aging thing really makes me cranky. When I do manage to remember something I can't remember where I read it. :o/

#49 - I think that's why so many of us said this was so hard to do. #45 - I read In Defense of Food first, maybe a year or two ago and it had a similar effect, but Dilemma went into so much more detail. I have really tried to change the way I food shop. Along that line I really want to read ...

613.200 In Defense of Food Michael Pollan. An excellent explanation of how the field of 'nutritionism' and marketing forces in the US have changed the diet (and-- the author posits--the health) of the western world, specifically the US. My full review is on tututhefirst in 999 Challenge : TUTU IS CRAZY- she's doing 999 x 2! (Aug 22, 2009, 11:09pm)

Category #2: Leftovers from challenge #1: In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. I had a food category in the first 999, and had originally intended to read Pollan's 1st book The Omnivore's Dilemma (still on my TBR shelf, but I also needed an audio book to listen to this week ...

#36 In Defense of Food Michael Pollan. I love to eat, and have the shape to prove it. I grew up with an Italian grandma (dad's side of the family) who had to feed 8 sons on a very limited budget, and an Irish mother who couldn't cook anything very exciting (she never learned how). When ...

24. In Defense of Food - I love Michael Pollan, and I agree with this book and its views. That said, I think it could have been better organized and edited. I definitely preferred An Omnivore's Dilemma to this one.

I am starting In Defense of Food today and then will be tackling the 3 volumes of The Diary of Gideon Welles.

The Omnivore's Dilemma is really good. Pollan's other food book In defense of food is also worth checking out. A quick read -- very entertaining and interesting. Right now I'm loving Eiffel's Tower: And the World's Fair Where Buffalo Bill Beguiled Paris, the Artists Quarreled, and Thomas Edi ...

This topic is near and dear to my heart :-) I actually like Pollan's In Defense of Food much better than Omnivore's Dilemma. Pollan is one of the newer writers on this topic, but all the various organic groups (in my home state, that means Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Assoc) have been ...

Hey bfretig, i've finally read In defense of food. Although the manifesto is good, as you've found out, we'll be faced with the battle between convenience and freshness. I've been using a "simpler" manifesto. Eat everything in moderation. You sort of diversify your palette to include both the ...
