Images and cultures clash in head on in Too Fat Can't Fly and Other Stories, a series of visual narratives that lure the reader into bizarre surroundings and circumstances, all inspired by Yuko Kondo's feelings of dislocation when he moved from his native Japan to London. This is his first graphic novel, a superbly illustrated book that includes Ladies & Gentlemen, a modern version of Romeo and Juliet; Too Fat, Can't Fly, a story of a young boy who is unable to follow in his superhero father's footsteps due to a weight problem; and Mask, which explores universal themes of love, body image and self-identity with passion and humor. Yuko Kondo is a London based illustrator and graduate of the RCA. He has exhibited in London, Tokyo and Paris and has done commercial fashion illustration for Paul Smith, Puma, Swash and Henrick Vibuscof.
