Thanks for posting all the history guff I like reading stuff like that! yes to The Once and Future King. how about The History of the Siege of Lisbon? My favorite 1001 reads this past quarter were The History of the Siege of Lisbon, The Mayor of Casterbridge, and If This is a Man. I also re-read a couple (Jane Eyre, Sense and Sensibility), but those are old favorites so I'm not really counting them. Re-starting:
Has anyone else read The History of the Siege of Lisbon? #13 The History of the Siege of Lisbon by Jose Saramago
First and foremost, I want to say that I did not give this book the attention it deserves. Even so, it is fantastic. Wow! I've never read Saramago before, and he is not easy. I had to go back and read each sentence several times (not ... ... reading I'm doing doesn't require much thought or concentration. Today I'm giving myself a 2 hour break to finally finish The History of the Siege of Lisbon, though. I think there will be a lot of re-reads between now and April.
As for S&S, I'm totally on board with how Elinor's story turns ... I'm still reading "The History of the Siege of Lisbon" by Jose Saramago. I love it, but it is taking me a long time to read. His sentences are really long and convoluted, which is great, but it means I have to actually concentrate and think and read each sentence about 3 times. Even though I ... Hi 37
I liked Baltasar and Blimunda- but have a number of his other books on my TBR pile. I started The History of the Siege of Lisbon but have to go back to it.
