I enjoy your book comments, Milda, and have starred your thread. Olive Kitteridge was a special book for me as well. I was lucky enough to receive it as an Early Reviewer. I liked Abide With Me, but it preceded Olive. I think when one has an affinity for a book, then others can pale in ...

If I read Olive Kitteridge again, I'll probably like it much better now that I know it's supposed to be short stories. (The first time I read it, I thought it was a novel.)

I loved Olive Kitteridge too. I identified a little too much with the grouchy ol' title character, I suppose, because I thought she was sweet.
Olive Kitteridge jumped right on my list of favorite books - I thought Strout so precise and economical with words yet so gifted at bringing the reader immediately into the life and challenges of the characters. I look forward to reading it a second time.
Olive Kitteridge is on my wishlist but its also on 288 other peoples wishlists so I might not get my hands on a copy for a while! I feel it will be one of these books I will have to buy in order to read, and finances don't allow that at the moment.

#176: Nice review of Olive Kitteridge , Amy. I loved the multiple points of view of Olive used in the novel. After all, no one person is really seen the same by any two people are they?
That was a good overview of Olive Kitteridge , Amy.
Linda - I borrowed Olive Kitteridge from my mom. She loved it, and I really liked it too. Hope you enjoy it!

I added Olive Kitteridge as a second book in my Maine category. I'm glad I read it, but I wasn't as fond of it as most people seem to be. I grew to like Olive, but the other characters got to be a bit much for me. I don't mind spending time with one miserable person, but when they're all ...

Book # 69 - Olive Kitteridge -

And regarding my ARC/ERs; I am on my last one to catch me up on all of them and it is a doozy. This one is Olive Kitteridge , a book of short stories all tied together by one or more of the same characters. I have heard it panned over and over again here on LT but I don't get it. ...

You know, bonnie, I have Olive Kitteridge on my TBR listing as a book of short stories so someone at some point in time recc'd it to me as shorts. I keep separate listings for my short story wish list and my book wish list TBRs.

Hi Bonnie;

So far the books I have read by Elizabeth Strout I have found to be BORING to me. Now that is just my take on her and I have only read 3 of them. I did receive Olive Kitteridge the other day as an ARC/ER (don't ask me--I thought it had been ...
Bonnie, wasn't Olive Kitteridge a bit disappointing -after knowing it was a Pulitzer Prize winner? I expect Pulitzer Prize winners to fully engage my interest. I saw someone on the Metro reading it today and wanted to ask her about it, but I didn't - or I would have missed my stop!

I finished Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout during a long weekend away from home for a family wedding. I enjoyed the book very much. Olive is certainly a force of nature and must have been a joy for the author to write about, as evidenced by the Reader's Guide. I think there is a little bit ...

After Olive Kitteridge won the Pulitzer, my mom mentioned that she'd like to read it, so I got it for her for Mother's Day (along with The Girls from Ames and The Third Chapter). I didn't know much about it, but had read a few good reviews from LTers.

Just curious. What made you select Olive Kitteridge as a Mother's Day gift?
I'll also be waiting to hear your thoughts on Olive Kitteridge . I got it for my mom for Mother's Day and she just finished it and loaned it to me. She liked it - especially the chapters that focused more on Olive.
I can't wait to hear your thought's on Olive Kitteridge , I read it a few months ago, and really wasn't all that thrilled. Slow and depressing, with not very many likable characters, but that's just one girls opinion. I mean it did win the Pulitzer so there must be something to it.
