First off, I found it rather irritating that the author chose to largely ignore the "common knowledge base" of vampire lore when constructing her vampirish creatures. However, I do have to admit that I did enjoy her brief nod to Sesame Street - vampires as compulsive counters - lol. Some awkward phrasing and a little trouble defining her characters also created some humorous moments but I doubt that the author intended them so I can't really give her credit for them. ( )Train-wreck bad; I'm glad I got the ebook for free. A tension-less, emotionally-stilted romance involving demons, the devil himself, witches, and Destiny; also, prophesied children. The hero and heroin have no chemistry, they just kind of know they're supposed to get it on. I downloaded this book for free on the Kindle. This was really a good book! It was about a witch and a vampire. The witch's blood is poison to a vampire. It totally destroys thier bodies and reduces them to ash. They can "spit" blood at vampires. Anyway she spits this blood at a vampire leader and he goes down. Before he can die, he lands on one of his clan and drinks from that vampire before he dies. Well he doesn't die, he becomes a phoenix. A phoenix is immune to all witch poison. Now he has a mixture of vamp blood and witch blood. He goes after the witch that almost killed him. She is in her kitchen making a love spell for a customer. He blasts into her kitchen and they have a fight where he throws her and the spell spills on her AND on him. Since its a love spell, he immediately falls in love with the witch who tried to kill him. The story progresses from there. It is a cute story, yes there is some fluff and sex, but it was written well and I really liked the characters. I had never read this author before and the way the book ended it certainly will have a sequel. When it come out, I will definately go and buy it. It was that good. I've given this book a very low rating, and I feel that I should say why - particularly as I think this is probably a book that serious readers of paranormal romance might very well enjoy a great deal. But me? I've never really tried paranormal romance, so as this book was free I though I'd try it to see whether I was as uncomfortable with the genre as I expected. I was - if not more so. This was just so far out of my comfort zone that I only made it to the end by skimming large passages. I couldn't possibly review or rate it fairly. On my personal 0 to 5 rating scale, it's a solid -8 with additional ick points; it is impossible for me to overstate how horrible I thought this was, and how hard it was to keep reading. Why did I carry on? I was determined to get to the end so I could at least say I've tried the genre and KNOW that I don't like it - but, my word, was it difficult. That said, the book seemed technically polished and well-written, although I think chapter 4 would have been better either as a prologue or a flashback. It was internally coherent, with well-developed characters. If vampire romance is your thing, you'll probably love it. Me, I'm off to find several gallons of brain bleach. And possibly a crucifix, just in case. no reviews | add a review
