This book is about a young boy named Tex, who loved his horse, but then one day his older brother mason gave it away, that night they had a huge fight. Both his parents died and he had a brother that went away and never came back.... ( )

The best of Hinton's books. Perhaps because it was my first. I fell in love with Tex. I fell in love with his vulnerability, his confusion, his loyalty to friends and family. This book is a mirror to my younger self. I see the title and I see myself at fourteen - a confused, curious, lonely young girl dissapearring into books the way others disappeared into dating. ( )
