Animal Man : Deus Ex Machina - Volume 3 (edition 2003)

While it's a little disappointing that this marks the end of Morrison's run on Animal Man, I'm more than a little relieved that his story was not unnecessarily stretched out. His work here clearly channels a lot of Alan Moore, but then again, Moore's not the only one who can expose the weaknesses of the comic book genre. Deus Ex Machina is a superb conclusion to an eye-popping and eye-opening story. ( )

When Animal Man turns abruptly around and gazes upon you, the reader, you shall know true horror.
