These two I had high expectations upon starting The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff: Overwrought prose and characters who in no way acted like real people actually behave. Out by Natsuo Kirino: Grim, grim, grim. A book with relentless hopelessness and misery. At another ...

My SantaThing gave me White Teeth by Zadie Smith The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy L. Sayers. Another LT friend sent me The Beauty of the Beasts by Ralph Helfer. And while shopping in bookstores for gifts I bought myself ...

I finished The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff day before yesterday and started right in on What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman. However, I don't expect to get too, too far in the book because you can count me in as someone whose children and grandchildren will be trickling in over the ...

The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff was an excellent, fairly light book that would definitely appeal to anyone familiar with Cooperstown, New York. I am not, but enjoyed it nevertheless. The monster in the lake is a little farfetched, but the story is mostly that of the main character's ...

I polished off The Condition by Jennifer Haigh the other night, loving it, and started The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff on recommendation of my daughter. I had never heard of the Groff book but it's easy and entertaining reading so far.

... can't have been an easy book to write and, at times, it's not an easy one to read, but it is well worth the journey. The Monsters of Templeton is another enjoyable read. When Willie Cooper returns to her home-town, pregnant and disillusioned, on the day the body of a 'monster' is ...

OK, that list was way too long! I've deleted it. If anyone wants the alphabetized list, tell me and I'll send it to you.

@174: Kelly, I'll keep Delicate Edible Birds in mind. It was such a fluke to read The Monsters of Templeton in the first place, though. I am very fond of The Riddle-Master of Hed trilogy. After all these years, it still ranks in my top 20 of all time fantasy trilogies. The lyrical prose, ...

I liked The Monsters of Templeton. Groff's book of short stories, Delicate Edible Birds, is so much better. I read it earlier in the year and still occasionally think about some of the stories. I have The Riddlemaster trilogy on next years reading list. It'll be my first McKillip.

Just looking at the books mentioned previously, Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff is one of my favorites. I loved reading the chapters told by Willie's ancestors and watching as her family tree grew and grew. I read and liked Death on the Family Tree by Patricia Sprinkle, but ...

The Monsters of Templeton was a great read and is another on my just-in-case list for the Orange category. I also finished The Ersatz Elevator - the next instalment in The Series of Unfortunate Events books.
