The fifth installment in the Visitation series and as luck would have it, I'm reading the most recent book first. Choppy at times and too much detail at other times I found the book had trouble holding my interest to the point I was skipping ahead. At times the book is flat out unbelievable; it just doesn't follow that the characters would do what they are doing. The mind reading by psychics Jamie and Faith is distracting. Let the story tell itself. Once in awhile is okay, to establish the story, but then let it drop. ( )

A little while ago I was in the mood for some romance, so I picked up this 2005 paperback at Value Village. This is the fifth book in the series, and the only one I've read. It seems the other four books involve couples that live in the little town of Visitation. Jamie is a mysterious mountain man who occasionally shows up with advice and frighteningly accurate premonitions. Thanks to Jamie, the couples in the previous books have happy endings, and they are forever grateful.

In this installment, the focus is Jamie. He has amazing mental powers that have caused him much trouble in the past. Faith seeks him out on his mountain. Her daughter is like Jamie. She knows about Jamie's past and his enemies. She says her daughter sent her to find Jamie, saying something bad would happen if she didn't. What is surprising to Jamie is that Faith has the uncanny ability to block Jamie's telepathy. He can't read her unless she lets him. Jamie is intrigued but wary. He's afraid to trust this woman who seems to be wrapping him around her little finger.

Not bad, not good. A lot of sexual tension, and a bit of danger.

Visitation is a land of beauty. Where lakes and trees abound and the resident mountain man and psychic, Jamie Creed, can be counted on to forewarn its new residents of impending danger and strife. That is until Faith shows up on Jamie's mountain. When Jamie finds out that Faith is a blast from his unwanted, hated past it is all he can do to keep himself together. Will the distraction Faith presents keep him from finding out about the new danger in Visitation until it is too late?

Jamie is the last installment in Foster's Visitation series and a fitting one as well. Jamie has been an enigmatic recurring character throughout the books and it was interesting to see where he came from and who he really is. I did like Faith even though she certainly wasn't as strong a heroine as Foster's other female leads. Jamie was an enjoyable romance and I think that the psychic bits were well done. All in all I found this to be a satisfying resolution to an interesting series of contemporary romance novels. ( )

Book description
Carrying a naked woman up a mountain in a driving storm--now there's a way for a man to start the day. But for Jamie, the unconscious redhead in his arms is an intruder, one who could bring him harm. He has his reasons for hiding out in this mountain cabin; for keeping his emotions hidden; for never, ever getting too close to anyone. And he's not about to stop now.

Before she passed out in his bed, she said her name was Faith--an appropriate name since he has to take her at her word. Who is she? Why is she here? Who sent her? And what is she doing to him? Jamie's used to feelings of wariness, isolation, of being on guard. What he's not used to is this dangerous, nearly uncontrollable new emotion raging through him.

Jamie wants Faith, as a man wants a woman...and it may already be too late to turn back...

"It's not that the woman in his arms is naked. It's not that he's carrying her up a mountain in a driving storm. What bothers Jamie is that the unconscious redhead is an intruder, someone who could bring him harm. He has his reasons for hiding out in this stark, secluded cabin; for keeping his emotions under wraps; for never, ever getting too close to anyone. But before she passed out in his bed, she said her name was Faith--an appropriate name since he has to take her at her word. Who is she? Why is she here? Who sent her? And what is she doing to him? Jamie's used to feelings of wariness, isolation, of being on guard. What he's not used to is this dangerous, nearly uncontrollable new emotion raging through him like a man on fire." -- p.
