Memory in Death

When a woman from Eve's past appears with a nefarious agenda, Eve and Roarke decide to confront the threat head on only to be forced to investigate when she turns up dead.

The identity of the killer is fairly obvious from the start as is the motivation. That said, there is an additional twist at the end that comes as a complete surprise. Robb always manages to pull one out of the hat at the last minute.

The character development is compelling as always. As more details about Eve's childhood emerge, it is impossible not to respect and admire her considering that trauma she not only managed to survive but overcome as well.

Roarke is amazing as always and this book shows once again that he is not a man to be trifled with when it comes to the woman he adores.

In sum, an enjoyable addition to the series with an interesting albeit predictable mystery and the additional bonus of extra information concerning Eve's past. ( )

A part of Eve's past comes back to haunt her, or well, at least tries too. But the woman who called herself her foster mother for a time, ends up dead and now Eve must put aside her hatred of what that life used to be and work to find a killer who may or may not be another foster child. ( )

It's Christmas time and Eve's foster mother walks back into her life with the intent to blackmail her and/or Roarke. Instead she is murdered and now Eve must stand for her. Eve lets it be known that she knew the victim so there will be no conflict of interest or questions. She then has to go back to her past and other fosters' pasts to find the murderer.

I love this series. Eve and Roarke fight but Eve learns what it means to have someone in her corner who will be there no matter what. She learns to apologize also. Good addition to the series. ( )

Another indictment of the foster care system. Even in the future they don't seem to get it right. ( )

Book description
New York Lieutenant Eve Dallas has walking a tightrope between her professional duties and her private demons.

Eve Dallas is one tough cop. She's got no problem dealing with a holiday reveler in a red suit who plunges thirty-seven stories and gives new meaning to the term "sidewalk Santa." But when she gets back to the station and Trudy Lombard shows up, it's all Eve can do to hold it together. Instantly, she's thrown back into the past, to the days when she was a vulnerable, traumatized girl-trapped in foster care with the twisted woman who now sits in front of her, smiling.

Trudy claims she just wanted to see how Eve was doing. But Eve's fiercely protective husband, Roarke, suspects otherwise-and his suspicions prove correct when Trudy arrives at his office, demanding money in exchange for keeping the ugly details of his wife's childhood a secret. Barely restraining himself, Roarke shows her the door-and makes it clear that she'd be wise to get out of New York and never bother him or his wife again.

Eve and Roarke just want the woman out of their lives, but someone else wants her dead. Just a few days later, Trudy's found on the floor of her hotel room, a mess of bruises and blood. A cop to the core, Eve is determined to solve the case, if only for the sake of Trudy's bereaved son. Unfortunately, Eve is not the only one to have suffered at this woman's hands, and she and Roarke will follow a circuitous, dangerous path to find out who turned this victimizer into a victim.
