I like how the book shows positive phrases to say, and leaves out negative phrases not to say. ( )

Lots of kids use the library, and show us what good manners look like

Okay, now this is a preachy book. It's little more than an illustrated list of rules, and the illustrations, while 'modern' and energetic, do little to enhance the text. If kids learn what the book would have them do, it is only for the satisfaction of library staff, and not the kids. The premise is not the problem, but rather the execution: it's entirely devoid of humor, story, or characters kids can identify with. I cannot imagine a kid enjoying reading it to her- or himself, or any but the stuffiest librarians, teachers, or parents choosing it for a storytime. ( )

Melody Price @ Bethesda: "I have a 3-part orientation (because I have K specials for 3 days in a row with each class). I do one lesson on Manners and use the book "Manners in the Library" by DeGezelle. I also use Mr. Wiggle's Library during one lesson and this year I'm thinking about using "What Happened to Marion's Book".
