"Wicked Witch of the East: What do we know about this witch? Well, she made the Munchkins work night and day (so she's as bossy as your parents). She was really old, because she turned to dust as soon as Dorothy's house fell on her." (Slade, 2007, p.11)

Slade's collection is a rogues gallery of famous villainous characters, both real and fictional. The book is charming, humorous, and creative in its delivery of factual and fictional information. Names like Attila the Hun, Billy the Kid, and Al Capone are presented alongside The Headless Horseman, Scrooge, and the Phantom of the Opera among others. The villains are each profiled creatively with categories such as likes and dislikes, beginnings, companions, and deeds. 'Interviews' are even included or created for characters so there is clearly a lot of fun going on inside this book. Facts and trivia are interlaced in the villain's biographical information and readers are sure to come away with a lot of knowledge about these memorable wicked ones! The book is strengthened by the black-and-white illustrations and sketches by Derek Mah to enhance the visual experience for the reader. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0887768091, Paperback)

Villainology is a veritable who’s who of characters from the underworld. Be they fictitious or all-too-genuine baddies, they are bound together by their infamous deeds. Author Arthur Slade takes a lighthearted view, nonetheless, and provides personal stats, their likes and dislikes, their high-school memories and an amazing array of cool facts along with up close and personal “interviews.” Readers will not only come away amused, they will come away with an enlarged store of general knowledge. Among the fourteen notable villains included are: The Wicked Witch of the West, Attila the Hun, The Wolf, Billy the Kid, The Headless Horseman, Morgan le Fay, Quin Hui, The Invisible Man, Scarface Capone, and a lineup of Shakespeare’s most memorable villains. Never-before-seen portraits of each by artist Derek Mah, make for a deliciously delectable rogue’s gallery.
