My husband and I listened to King Dork in the car while driving to New Orleans. We both loved it! I'll bet it works better in audio than in print... I read King Dork last year and really didn't like it. I ended up giving it away. The person I gave it away to read it and then also gave it away. We agreed it was a "boy book". Just didn't resonate with either one of us. Just finished King Dork by Frank Portman. Excellent! I especially loved all the bands they came up with. I was glad to see the appendix in the back that listed them all. I just finished All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot and King Dork by Frank Portman. Both were wonderful (in completely different ways of course!)

For me it' King Dork by Frank Portman It's actually pretty good so far
I like using the little touchstones I loved King Dork by Frank Portman. Smack by Melvin Burgess is also great. I guess it's technically more of a middle-grade book than a YA book, but Kate DiCamillo's The Tale of Despereaux is just one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. Oh, I totally forgot about King Dork.
I'll look for the other ones, too. Hm, while maybe not strictly about "the band", I think that Our Noise by Jeff Gomez and (more recently) King Dork by Frank Portman are great music-based fictional reads. I'd add Don Delillo's Great Jones Street to these as well.
