This was a borderline 4. It's bubblegum, don't get me wrong, but it's fun bubblegum. I can see why she and Ally Carter are such good friends. This is like Gallagher Girls, but adding in the complication of pretending to be normal all the time. If a few bits had been less awkwardly done, it would have been a solid 4 for me. ( )

More or less in the same style and along the same lines as Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls books, the Squad features a group of cheerleaders who are secretly undercover operatives for the US government. Kudos to the author for shaking up stereotypes of cheerleaders, though the cheerleaders in this book do still play up all the stereotypes as part of their cover. This was an engaging read, but not particularly a standout for this genre. It's a bit too formulaic for my taste. ( )

Toby is a very funny, very sarcastic, very entertaining protaganist. I thought that the idea was great and the writing was hilarious. It is one of those books that girls secretly wish that they were a part of. ( )

Cute book. Reminded me of Veronica Mars. The snarkiness between Toby and Jack were kind of like Veronica and Logan. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0385734549, Mass Market Paperback)

Bayport High’s Varsity cheer squad is made up of the hottest of the hot. But this A-list is dangerous in more ways than one. The Squad is actually a cover for the most highly trained group of underage government operatives the United States has ever assembled. They have the perfect cover, because, beyond herkeys and highlights, no one expects anything from a cheerleader.
