All of these are for the R.I.P. IV Reading Challenge ... ... I chose to read the book after remembering my reaction (my memory did not stretch back far enough to connect the two). The Man in The Picture was my first introduction to Hill and more subtlety unsettling. Susan Hill writes all sorts of stuff - The Man in the Picture is another very nicely done ghost story, not as terrifying as The Woman in Black (you should definitely try and see the stage show which is TERRIFYING).
She's a writer with real 'range' - also a drneutron in Book talk : English Authors (Aug 11, 2009, 10:41am) I've recently read the Simon Serailler mystery/thrillers by Susan Hill. They were quite good. Her The Man in the Picture is on my wishlist, and I hear good things about The Woman in Black from other LTers. Hi Whisper - I read The Man in the Picture by Susan Hill and enjoyed it alot. She writes 'horror' but it is fun. Glad you liked her, too. ... Susan Hill. If you like spooky stuff, you might enjoy The Woman in Black.
And, another great one of hers is The Man in the Picture. ... The Woman in Black by Susan Hill. I enjoyed it. It was a good gothic ghost story. I may have read it too soon after The Man in the Picture though as they were thematically quite similar.
Why I read it: I enjoyed The Man in the Picture and this one was supposed to be even better. I read The Man in the Picture last year. I agree with you. It was quite enjoyable...and creative.
