Just finished The Man in the Picture, a very creepy and good ghost story.

Reading The Woman in Black by Susan Hill. Just finished The Man in the Picture, also by Hill. Two really spooky but elegant ghost tales. Also reading The Lair of the White Worm by Bram Stoker (online - couldn't find a print copy). All of these are for the R.I.P. IV Reading Challenge ...

... I chose to read the book after remembering my reaction (my memory did not stretch back far enough to connect the two). The Man in The Picture was my first introduction to Hill and more subtlety unsettling.

Susan Hill writes all sorts of stuff - The Man in the Picture is another very nicely done ghost story, not as terrifying as The Woman in Black (you should definitely try and see the stage show which is TERRIFYING). She's a writer with real 'range' - also a drneutron in Book talk : English Authors (Aug 11, 2009, 10:41am)

I've recently read the Simon Serailler mystery/thrillers by Susan Hill. They were quite good. Her The Man in the Picture is on my wishlist, and I hear good things about The Woman in Black from other LTers.

Hi Whisper - I read The Man in the Picture by Susan Hill and enjoyed it alot. She writes 'horror' but it is fun. Glad you liked her, too.

... Susan Hill. If you like spooky stuff, you might enjoy The Woman in Black. And, another great one of hers is The Man in the Picture.

... The Woman in Black by Susan Hill. I enjoyed it. It was a good gothic ghost story. I may have read it too soon after The Man in the Picture though as they were thematically quite similar. Why I read it: I enjoyed The Man in the Picture and this one was supposed to be even better.

I read The Man in the Picture last year. I agree with you. It was quite enjoyable...and creative. I hope your summer continues to be a good one!

35. The Man in the Picture by Susan Hill 4 stars A fairly spooky, very short gothic that is quite well-written and engaging. Is the painting on Oliver's teacher's wall sinister or just unpleasant? There isn't much more I can say without giving away too much since it was so short. Another ...

I'm midway through The Man in the Picture by Susan Hill. It's shivery.

I am absolutely thrilled that I'm getting The Risk of Darkness by Susan Hill. I loved her book The Man in the Picture (so haunting!) and am looking forward to this. This is two months in a row that I snagged a book, so very surprised and extra happiness. Thanks. Abby.

I really enjoyed Man in the picture by Susan Hill. I have never read any of her writings before so when I went to read an earlier work Woman in Black I found why people said Man in the picture followed a similar formula of writing.

Book #97 The Man In The Picture: A Ghost Story by Susan Hill I found this one on Avaland's list. It is a small, compact book both in page length (145 pages) and size (maybe six by four inches), but it packs a punch within. I'm usually not drawn to horror/ghost stories, but this one was ...
