One of Fred Saberhagen’s scifi/horror novels, Specimens is about something that is buried beneath a house that is kidnapping and preserving people for some unknown use. Dan, the new owner of the house (the previous owner died mysteriously) moves in with his two children, but his fiancee notices something wrong with him, and when the children disappear she calls in some help.

It isn’t the best Fred Saberhagen book, but certainly is a quick read if you are in the mood for something that isn’t mainstream science fiction. ( )
