I finally read the highly recommended Cynster book by my friend, her favorite with On A Wicked Dawn. After constantly putting off reading this due to other books in my shelf, it really was worth the wait, and I had fun from the first until the last page. Suffice it to say, I loved it.With the Bar Cynster books, the author always injects mystery and some sort of investigation alongside the hero as pursuer theme. Since this book is about a Cynster female, there is a mystery but I'm glad it focused more on Amanda, introduced her character, developed it, and took the reader with her adventures shielded from the eyes from the ton.The hero Martin Fulbridge (Earl of Dexter) was every bit as a Cynster male as could be. It's small wonder he won the sympathies of the Bar Cynster in pursuit of Amanda, and even assisted him to it. There were a lot of funny moments, quips, and passionate love scenes with the Stephanie Laurens trademark. It was very romantic.Secondary characters really helped and there was a hint of what would happen next, making the reader grab the next book and see what happens next, which was what I did as I started to read On A Wicked Dawn right after this, and closed it because it was 2 am. ( )This story is part of the Cynster series, this time one of the Cynster Females. Amanda is 23, pretty much on the shelf but she wants someone like her cousins as a love, however that isn't easy to find. She decides that she's going to find love in unusual places and delves into the underbelly of the Beau Monde, visiting those places considered a bit risky. Yes, there are sections of the book and the plot that are great fun, but there are also chunks thata just made me want to beg the writer why? I liked Martin, Lord Dexter, he was a great fun character, but really there were times that his angst made me think he was 15! There's a good book lurking under the overwriting. Much of the plot is interesting but some of it felt like filler. Rather like many films that could be half-an-hour shorter this book could have shed 100-200 pages and been a tighter read. I loved it. Amanda, cousin to the members of the Bar Cynster, realises that she needs an untraditional husband and finds the perfect prospect in Martin Fulbridge. Martin doesn't realise this until later. i liked it, it was good to read about someone other than the cynster males (who seem all the same). i wish laurens wouldnt try to turn every story into a 'whodunnit', the solutions aren't the most original. no reviews | add a review

Where are all the exciting men in London?
After spending years in the glittering ballrooms of the ton, Amanda Cynster is utterly bored by the current crop of colorless suitors. Determined to take matters into her own hands, one night she shockingly goes where no respectable lady ever should, but where many an intriguing gentleman might be found.
But titillating excitement quickly turns to panic when Amanda discovers she's quite out of her depth. She looks around for help -- and is unexpectedly rescued by the Earl of Dexter. Lean, sensuous, and mysterious, he has delayed re-entering society, preferring instead a more interesting existence on its fringes.
He's the epitome of the boldly passionate gentleman Amanda has been searching for, but although his very touch makes it clear he's willing to educate her in the art of love, Amanda has to wonder if such a masterful, lionized rake can be sufficiently tamed into the ways of marriage.
