... that new sequel out now, written by Stoker's great-grandson or something. I know...other thread... The Last Unicorn, A Wrinkle in Time, Brave New World or Ender's Game would all be good for me too. I've read them all at some time or another, but enjoyed them muchly and wouldn't mind ...

... Brave New World yet, I would lean closer to Dune or A Brave New World. I am going to suggest something new as well. A Wrinkle in Time, I haven't read it since 6th grade, so it would be a check to see how it stands up to maturity (or at least the reader getting older...)

#2 - How on earth did I manage to never read A Wrinkle in Time while growing up? It was listed as a recommendation in Bookmarks magazine as one of the top time travel books so I had to give it a shot. Such fun to read. It made me wish I had read it when I was younger and could really relate to ...

I read my copy of A Wrinkle in Time to death...literally...the cover fell off after about read 25.

Oh, A Wrinkle in Time is one of my all-time favorite books. Also, Old Filth sounds really interesting, and of course the review of The Earth Hums in B Flat was great. Your 2010 seems to be going great so far, book-wise!

Hi Tui I've wanted to read the Earth Hums in B Flat for a while and just added A Wrinkle in Time to my wishlist too. Great reviews!

I loved A Wrinkle In Time when I was a child - I must try and get hold of a copy for a re-read.

... The Earth Hums in B Flat and Old Filth are both already in the BlackHole. I cannot tell you how many times I have read A Wrinkle in Time which remains one of my all-time favorite books. What a start to the reading year you have had! Wonderful!

A Wrinkle in Time has everyone forced to be polite, etc. but I don't remember any chips.

Have you looked at Madeleine L'Engle's series that starts with A Wrinkle in Time? I think they fit what you described. There's an occasional scene that's somewhat scary, but they're not described graphically. Overall the books are very positive. Good luck with finding somethig you like!

#65: Sorry you did not enjoy A Wrinkle in Time more, lady. It has been one of my favorites from childhood. I am adding Bad Boy to Planet TBR. It looks like one I would enjoy. Thanks for the rcommendation!

... reminded me a little of Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising books. You could also try Madeleine L'Engle if you haven't yet--A Wrinkle In Time is one of my favorites, and the sequels are good too. On a slightly different note, The Enchanted Chocolate Pot is great fun--kind of like Jane Austen ...

I hate people sometimes. Last night I felt the urge to read a little more of A Wrinkle in Time. It's a strange book and I'm trying to decide if I really like it. It has me interested. But it's just very different.

47. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle -A children's classic that I never read before. It was just ok. Perhaps I would've liked it better as a child. I was surprised that God was mentioned so often. Not that I have a problem with that, I just wasn't expecting it in a sci-fi/ fantasy ...

I adored A Wrinkle in Time myself. The next one is even better in my opinion.

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeling L'Engle is #17. What a fun and interesting read! I love the fantasy genre.

I know I'm a broken record about this, but our own nannybebette aka Belva has a hot review of A Wrinkle in Time! She really gives it her all...I'm now considering reading it again after 40 years based on her review. And porchsitter55's review of The Geography of Love is still hot after two ...

Hey, Belva, Just catching up on your thread after being out of town. Loved your reviews, as always! :) Have to say that A Wrinkle in Time was my all-time favorite book when I was a girl, and I couldn't wait to share it with my girls. They have read all of them, but I haven't. One of these ...

My first book I ever read was The King Who Rained a pun book. My first sci fi was most likely A Wrinkle in Time for 6th grade, and I think followed by Anne McCaffrey (from my mom) and Isaac Asimov from my Grandpa. I'm pretty sure the first Fantasy that got me hooked was The Dark is ...

Jennifer, thank you for all your kind words (and a star, even). Oh, how I loved A Wrinkle in Time. My daughter in Tx and I have been discussing it so much since I read it. It was her fav growing up. She was 8 the first time she read it and still has her original copy. She, like you was so ...

... one was published in 1965. I must have read it about then--I don't think I was in junior high yet. I know I also read A Wrinkle in Time when it was reasonably new, but I don't remember hearing the term 'sci-fi' until I was in high school.

How does one describe A Wrinkle in Time? It is like nothing I have ever read before. The story begins with a family of 6; mother, father; both scientists and the father has been away for several years on governmental business, Meg, twins Sandy and Dennys, and 5 year old Charles Wallace whom ...

It's a quartet: A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and Many Waters. I thought "A Wrinkle in Time" and "Many Waters" were the best. After "A Wrinkle in Time", I don't think it matters which order you read them in.

I think the first SciFi was Miss Pickerell Goes to the Moon when I was about 8 or so. After that was definitely A Wrinkle in Time. Fantasy, I'm a littler fuzzier on...probably not until the Mary Stewart Merlin that others have mentioned here. Amazingly, as a kid who read everything, I didn't ...

I enjoyed A Wrinkle in Time as well, but I thought the best of the sequels (there were 3) was Many Waters, in which the twins go back in time and visit Noah and his family.

Hi there girlfriend! Well, I am so glad you are enjoying A Wrinkle In Time. It is one of my all-time childhood favorites! The sequel is not bad either (A Wind in the Door). Also enjoyed Gilead, so now I will have to check out Housekeeping. Later! Always a pleasure to be here.

It took me a while to figure what to grab after Housekeeping but I finally settled on A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. I'm enjoying it. What a fun little book with fun little people.

I read a lot of Nancy Drew, Cherry Ames, Trixie Belden also. But for books that took me outside my own world...probably Wrinkle in Time and Gone with the Wind fairly early on (early teens). Probably my deepest connection was with A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I don't know why. My life was ...

39) A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. I took a break from The Great Influenza to read this while on vacation, and I'm a bit conflicted. I really wanted to like this book. Somehow I missed it as a kid, but I've heard great things about it and probably got myself expecting too much. ...

Ugh, A Wrinkle in Time. As someone who absolutely LOVED anything fantasy or Sci-Fi (and I still do, though with a bit more discretion now that I'm older), I don't know how, but it's somehow true; I couldn't STAND that book. I didn't relate to the characters at all, the plot dragged on and on, ...
