Also reading The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway -- it was loaned to me today during a biblioemergency. Last night I finished ... I can't say enough about the book Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. It's excellent and is about a family in the South right after WWII. It's told from various perspectives and I found it to be an excellent book. The audiobook is also a joy to listen to.

My vision of them was so clear in my mind it was like watching a play instead of reading a novel. It isn't a warm fuzzy story by any ... ... one narrator too; it allows me to better fall in love with the character and/or really escape into the story. I did love Mudbound though. Also waiting for That Old Cape Magic. You have been reading some terrific books, Brenzi. Mudbound was one of my favorites from last year. 30. Mudbound - I enjoyed this one, though I was a bit annoyed at first by the multitude of perspectives and the seemingly random switching between different characters. It made more sense later on, and the story definitely drew me in. 42. Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. I loved the writing, but can't really comment on the story without giving things away.

I read Mudbound last year and agree with your comments. It was a marvelously written book.
Two more excellent books to add this morning ... Mudbound and When Will There Be Good News. Mudbound was a tragic story in almost every way, although knowing the history of racial oppression, the outcome was a foregone conclusion. But, the characters were marvelously drawn and their emotions ... ... it. Just read 'Footsteps' by Elizabeth McMahon, which I thought was wonderful, and equally wonderful in different ways was Mudbound, next, maybe When Will There Be Good News... ... that you inspired me to read Property after I had already read A Mercy --and then I just happened onto a copy of Mudbound, which I also recommend. Whew! Enough name dropping. :-) ... bloated feeling when I read too many fluffy books. :-)

Well, Whisper1, as you can see by my rating, I thought Mudbound was outstanding. Jordan did a good job developing the characters, considering the time and place they were in. By that I mean that the characters may have ... I have finished Mudbound which was Babbling Books February choice and therefore one of my Alternate choices for my TBR Challenge !

Best Short Sto ... I started Mudbound yesterday and can hardly put it down... I just ran across this particular thread. I finished Mudbound yesterday for a book group I belong to and I LOVED it! I am always in awe of authors who write with this kind of power. Not an easy book to read, but one that I couldn't put down. I practically read it in one sitting. I enjoyed my last two books so much that I'm afraid my next will pale in comparison. I know that's not fair, but it's true! ... you into the lives of the characters in a way that makes you feel like you're there with them.
This week I'll finish up Mudbound by Hillary Jordan and Salem's Lot by Stephen King. I rereading King's book in order for the King's Constant Readers group here on LT. ... the television with a book many times.
I'm in the middle of World Without End by Ken Follett and just beginning Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. I'm also reading Carrie for the King's Constant Readers group read. #27 Welcome, Lisa! I loved Mudbound, too. In fact, I've been asked to review it, so I'm currently reading it again. I'm so glad that Tomato Girl is next on your list. Of course, I'm biased.
#28 I'm eager to hear what you think of The Music Teacher, Cindy. It sounds good! ... this year have some connection to World War II - The Outcast, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and Mudbound. Together they have given me greater insight into that time in history and especially into the years immediately following the war. #22-- I absolutely agree, Lindsey. After Ellen Foster, my favorite Algonquin Book is Mudbound. It is a hauntingly good read. Ooh, The Music Teacher sounds great. I really, really need to acquire Mudbound too, I've heard so much praise for it.
Actually, most of the books mentioned are now on my TBR list. I hope I get a chance to acquire them soon! ... in the year, and though it's rather different from American Savior in scope, it was still really good.

 I had testing in the hospital all day yesterday and brought Mudbound with me. I started reading it and whenever I had to put it down, I got so annoyed.
Imagine that? How dare they interrupt my reading time. LOL The book is great! I put it near the top of my TBRs. I will get Mudbound next week. I spent my disposable few dollars from my pay for this time. sigh...so many books so little money.....

goes off to just LOOK at Mudbound again. Ah! Mudbound! That is a book I hesitate to compare to To Kill a Mockingbird, but I can't help it! Both books conjured the same feelings for me. Although not the first Algonquin title I had read, Mudbound was the first book I read as an official Algonkian and was quickly reassured that I had ... Mudbound is one of those haunting and disturbing novels that stays with you. It certainly makes you think. Jordan's writing is wonderful--the pace is perfect, and she captures each voice with such precision. Mudbound has some very interesting reviews here~ will have to explore this one... it does sound good.

Well I ... #36 Mudbound by Hillary Jordan I found this to be a very disturbing story -- one that will haunt me for a long time. Jordan's first book is a masterful portrayal of the cruel, evil underbelly of the deep mucky, nasty, bigoted post WWII south.
I started reading Mudbound by Hillary Jordan I'm noting that many LT members liked this book. Thus far, it is holding my interest and I appreciate the writing and unfolding of the characters. ... interesting bits and some parts which were total overkill (full review here).
I've got Mudbound out from the library, and I've heard good things about it here and elsewhere, so I think I'll pick that up when I go home. 91. Mudbound by Hillary Jordan - Set right after WW2 in Mississippi. Each chapter is from a different character's viewpoint. I'm not sure what to say about this book. It was very well written. It really gives a perspective on the south at the time.

OK--just checked it out--it's on The List to get it here some year. I just want to add my two cents to the Mississippi chatter...if you have not read Mudbound by Hillary Jordan...go get it...if I did not know she lived in New York...I would bet she lived in the Delta...as a child of the Louisiana Delta...she pegs it. I think about her book all the time....and ... porch_reader, Mudbound sounds interesting...I might have to check it out:-) ... romance or chick lit by any stretch!
I've been on a reading marathon this week - have read Half of a Yellow Sun and Mudbound and An Artist of the Floating World and The Story of Lucy Gault in the last few days. Tonight just started The Blind Assassin. Been able to cross off quite a ... I finished Herodotus (at last), then ripped through Mudbound by Hillary Jordan today. Despite the fact that I read it so quickly, I feel that I will need to let it all sink it. It is thoroughly enjoyable and recommend it highly.
On the road, I finished The Wonder Spot written and ... Excited to see high ratings for both Half of a Yellow Sun and Mudbound - both books are on Mount TBR. =) I finished Half of a Yellow Sun yesterday, then zipped through Mudbound today - both excellent. on deck: either An Artist of the Floating World or I'll dive into Unaccustomed Earth.
