A historical book on British lads who wanted to fly and were sent by the British military to Oklahoma to go thru flying training. Britain did not have the resources to do all the training for the number of people they needed to pilot their planes and to replace the lads who were shot down.

As a part of the Lend Lease Act in 1941 two civilian run schools were started in Oklahoma and thousands of British young men came to Oklahoma to learn to fly.

This books talks about the cities, the companies that ran the training, the townspeople, and what it was like for the people here in OK while the schools operated from 1941 thru 1945. A concise well illustrated history.

Of note, 15 students were killed in training accidents while at the Spartan school in Miami Okalahoma. Without fanfare Mrs. Frantie Hill tended their graves from 1941 till she was to frail to continue in 1982. When she was buried alongside these graves many found out for the first time that she had been awarded The King's Medal for Service in the Cause of Freedom by King George VI for her efforts. ( )
