This is another exceptionally well written story by the MacLachlans. I already have enjoyed their dog poetry, their story of an island summer called Painting the Wind, and a number of Patricia MacLachlan's solo books. This just adds to the list. This is good, not only for its use of short, tense sentences about the prowling of Fiona's dog, Max, but also for the colorful similes and onomatopoeias. Beautifully written. Well worth exposing young readers to. ( )
