Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0671297910, Mass Market Paperback)

Claudia wanted out. She felt suffocated, a stranger in her own home. Everything seemed phony, pretending to be what it wasn't, especially her relationship with her mother. Mrs. Nichols ran Woman Beautiful magazine and tried to mold Claudia into the perfect teen daughter for all her friends to admire. But Claudia couldn't communicate with her mother, and she was sick of all the hypocrisy. Claudia wanted to feel free, the way she could never feel at home. One afternoon she walked out of the house, took a train for the neares city, and started a search for some kind of meaning in her life. Claudia found terror, lonliness, love, and no easy answers.
