Finished off another category, Published in the Last Ten Years, with Benjamin Black's The Silver Swan.
What a depressing bunch of people! Otherwise, a well-written crime novel. 3.5* ... series that I don't think I want to tackle. Any suggestions?
Now I am taking a mystery break for awhile - starting with The Silver Swan, the second in the Benjamin Black (aka John Banville) series about an Irish forensic pathologist in the 1950's. So far alot of well-written atmosphere, not ... ... rest of the year is 25, and next year I hope to reach the whole 75 with the rest of you. Here are my last two reads:

Blac ... Just finished The Silver Swan by Benjamin Black. Currently reading memoir The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer in Adobe Digital Editions from Overdrive. I can't help laughing out loud at some of the scenes in "Bar"; truly an enjoyable read so far. Also listening to CD Audio of The Shift ... ... with what I'm reading now.

Just started Benjamin Black's The Silver Swan, the sequel to Christine Falls. It's excellent so far! ... fiction that reads like literary fiction.
Another writer who does this is Benjamin Black. Read Christine Falls and The Silver Swan. Benjamin Black is the name John Banville uses for his noir-ish detective novels.

Yes, Christine Falls is a mystery - the first in a series, from what I understand. The second just came out - The Silver Swan. I haven't read it. Although it's definitely a different genre for Banville, the writing is still superb.
Now I'll have to add Gail Jones to my list ... ... for going to that trouble for me. How wonderful to be able to ask for and receive such help!
As it's turned out The Silver Swan wasn't as much to my taste as I had hoped it would be; after the initial stravaiging by the culchie there wasn't much of linguistic interest. However, I do ...
