It is very easy for devils to do evil things, like tying up train tracks in the hopes that people will die. It's hard for them, however, to do things like gather tea or make necklaces.

It's easy enough for them to blackmail other people into doing their, uh, "clean work" for them, though. Which is what happens.

The book is realistically frightening for some small children, including the part at the end where the devil is hit by a train and dies (ironically, while fixing the problem he'd created). Also I, personally, just didn't like the story that much. Nice illustrations, though. ( )
