42. Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani. Ave Maria Mulligan is the town pharmacist/spinster (her words, not mine--I hate that word) in Big Stone Gap, VA. When her mother dies, she leaves a letter telling her big secret, which changes everything Ave Maria always knew about herself. This is a ... Rita Mae Brown has loads of books set in VA, there's also Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer and Adriana Trigiani's Big Stone Gap Series. I gave up on Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani. It was just too tedious and didn't capture an ounce of interest for me despite my having read more than 180 pages of it. I think Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani and China Boy by Gus Lee ought to be added to this list. Both were incredibly boring.
I have to agree with Burger's Daughter being on this list too. I read it at the beginning of the year and couldn't bring myself to even give it away to anyone ... Sent to a few moochers today, Seven Up by Janet Evanovich, Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani (which I detested reading and am therefore very glad to get it out of my house) and Pompeii by Robert Harris ... and despite richard's scathing putdowns .. i still like the story but dislike the writing style.
I think my distaste of Big Stone Gap could possibly equal richard's distaste for Pope Joan and it is a book that I'd be willing to consign to the coming Halloween bonfire. I wonder if it's ... ... caffeine drinks like soda though .. for that, i become more hyper than a starving hummingbird
I've had to give up on Big Stone Gap - i hate giving up on a book but this was truly one of the most boring books I've ever read and I gave it a good shot I think, but I just couldn't bring ... 11. I don't know if I can continue. Hubby suggests I use it as a trivet or coaster and my mother suggests I persevere because it could get better. Mmm.... it's making my reading of Big Stone Gap seem more interesting than I suspect it is. ... the characters a little better. But i've got another half to go, so maybe things get better .... we'll see.
Also reading Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani .. about a third through and I don't get a sense that this book is going anywhere. A little disappointed because someone recommended this ... Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani
