This isn't a terrible book, although it does have problems. The conversation is very awkward - people don't talk like that. She has them speaking in paragraphs rather than sentences, which is a bit annoying at times. Also, I'm not sure how well she understands the social scene of Regency England - she's always saving Jack three dances, while I believe that two was the maximum allowed to anyone without scandal. There isn't a lot of passion between the two characters, actually, there isn't a lot of emotion between them at all. The one sex scene at the end is really flat and not very good. Also, I'm not sure she knows exactly what she's doing with her characters. She says at the beginning (and many times throughout) that Lucy is quiet and thoughtful - then makes a big deal at the end about how she's so impulsive. Er, aren't those two things opposites? Nonetheless, this book has its moments, and was an enjoyable way to spend an evening. ( )
