Everything goes perfectly for Isabelle Hunter. It always has. Until the day her on-again/off-again boyfriend, Shawn "Sluttig" Littig, breaks up with her. And just a few months away from her prom. Isabelle has been dreaming of the prom for years. She's so obsessed with the prom she's created a notebook that has every last detail of the dream night planned out.

Her friends Lane and Vivi have never approved of Shawn and decide to do whatever they can to keep him out of Isabelle's life permanently. They hatch a plan to create a fake boy on MySpace to divert Isabelle's thoughts from Shawn. Isabelle shows interest in the fictitious Brandon, and so Vivi convinces her younger brother, Marshall, to start chatting with Isabelle on-line.

Soon Isabelle thinks Brandon would be ideal to go to the prom with. The only problem is she doesn't know he doesn't exist! So Vivi and Lane have to come up with a real guy, and quick! The two girls go everywhere to meet the right guy, but to no avail. Only after joining Vivi's mom for some play auditions do they spy the perfect guy, Jonathan. After much coercing, they get Jonathan to join forces with them to be the "real" Brandon. The only catch is that soon Jonathan is showing interest in someone else.

Of course the reader can figure out that there are going to be complications with the story. Only the twists aren't what one would expect! Isabelle thinks about taking Shawn back, Vivi gets confused when her younger brother starts to get cool, Vivi is crushing on someone she shouldn't, and Lane can't get the nerve to tell her friend Curtis she wants to be more than friends.

FAKE BOYFRIEND is another fun read by Ms. Brian. She has hit on another popular topic, using MySpace as the basis for creating a mysterious new boyfriend. The story will not disappoint current fans of Ms. Brian, and should create new ones at the same time! ( )

I was really attracted to the premise of this book, two friends make online fake romantic interest for third friend to get her away from her sleazy ex-boyfriend. It could have played out in a number of ways and I wanted to find out how it would.

For the most part this was a fun book! I really liked the character of Lane, who was in love with her best guy friend but couldn't tell him! I also liked the conflict that Vivi goes through in the book. I didn't really care for the character of Isabelle though, we are told she's basically perfect except when it comes to her boyfriend (when it comes to him she gets rather annoying). Maybe it was because the story was never told through her voice so as a reader all you knew was what you learned from her friends.

I would have liked to be in on a lot more of the instant message conversations between Isabelle and the fake love interest, typed by Vivi's brother Marshall. We only got a taste, but I was ready for some full conversations! I think that also would have helped develop Marshall's character a bit more and Isabelle's as well. I also wanted to see the character of Isabelle's ex-boyfriend Shawn a bit more, I believed he was bad news but I wanted to see him show it at least a few more times throughout the book!

These girls get themselves into some pretty funny situations and it's fun to see how they wiggle their way out of them! I definitely knew where the book was going but had a great time getting there. Just wish the characters were developed a bit more! ( )

Isabelle Hunter, a beautiful, valedictorian of her senior class, has had her heart broken again and her three best friends, Vivi, Lane, and Curtis, can't stand it. Shawn Littig, the on again - off again boyfriend of Isabelle has humilated her in a very public way and caused Vivi, Lane, and Curtis to come up with a plan to keep Izzy and Shawn apart for good. Their main obstacle is prom. Izzy has been planning the perfect prom since her freshman year and Shawn has always been the date in her plan. With prom only a few weeks away, Izzy's three friends are forced to do something drastic.Vivi comes up with a plan that she feels is fool proof. Lane isn't so sure, but lacks the confidence to stand up to her more outgoing friend. In the end, they create a Myspace profile for an invented guy that is sure to peek Izzy's interest. They name him Brandon and after adding a few friends to his profile, take the plunge and put a friend request in to Izzy. Little do Vivi and Lane know, but Izzy is online and immediately accepts the friend invitation and IMs Brandon out of boredom. Not knowing how to respond as a "guy," Lane enlists the help of Vivi's younger brother, Marshall, to act as Brandon.Everything seems to go fine until Izzy makes comments about taking Shawn back because she wants a date to the prom. This forces Vivi, Lane, and now Curtis to go looking for someone to play Brandon. They hire Jonathan, a gorgeous boy from a neighboring town to be Brandon and take Izzy to the prom.FAKE BOYFRIEND has everything. Friendship, love, and life lessons. Of course, everything doesn't turn out exactly like Vivi intended in her original "fool proof" plan, but everyone gets something in the end. As I was reading this story I kept wishing I had friends like Vivi, Lane, and Curtis. They definately went above and beyond. FAKE BOYFRIEND is a one-sitting read. I devoured it in one day and was sad when I reached the end. ( )

This is a fun book featuring four best friends; Isabelle, Vivi, Lane, and Curtis. Isabelle, who is gorgeous and a shoo in for prom queen has a jerk for a boyfriend, and they've just broken up for the umpteenth time. This time, however, her friends are determined NOT to let her make the mistake of her life and get back together with him. Vivi and Lane come up with the idea of creating a fake boyfriend on MySpace to distract Isabelle from reuniting with the creep. It works, but now they have to find a real fake boyfriend, and convince him to a) pretend to be someone else, and b) take Isabelle to the prom. Things don't go quite according to plan. If you like books that aren't that serious, and involve a bit of romance and girl stuff, you'll like this book. Kate Brian is also the author of Lucky T which many students have enjoyed. ( )

He's absolutely perfect.

If only he were real.

Lane and Vivi have had it with Isabelle Hunter's boyfriend, Shawn Littig (a.k.a. Sluttig). He is the only person who can turn their smart, confident best friend into a complete mess. When Shawn Sluttig cheats on and dumps Izzy just months before the prom she's been planning since the ninth grade, Lane and Vivi decide to take action.

With a few quick keystrokes, they create a MySpace page for "Brandon," the perfect guy to get Izzy out of her revolving-door relationship with Shawn. Too bad he's totally fake. Vivi's younger brother, Marshall, who they hire to be the "man" behind the profile, is way too into being Izzy's fake boyfriend. So they turn to cute, prep-school Jonathan to be the face of Brandon. But when Vivi falls for Jonathan, and Sluttig tries to wedge his way back into Izzy's prom picture, the whole plan starts to go south faster than you can say "fake boyfriend."
