This is such a delight to read. There are about 800,000 different plot lines but there is no struggle to keep them straight, and they all tie together so nicely at the end, it's just so soothing and good to read. Plus it has Luke getting the shit kicked out of him repeatedly which is just delightful and funny, and Leia uses the force and a lightsaber, and there's just. Anything you want out of this book, I guarantee it gives you. It's why it's my favorite EU book, because it's so buckwild and delightful. And it's LONG- it's like 500 pages long! But it goes by so quickly, because the pacing is just that good. And there's some amazing droid stuff in it??? Y'all you gotta just read this, because it's so good and fun. ( )

Leia had been preparing herself for a large diplomatic event, one that would host hundreds of officials from all over New Republic space. When all of a sudden out of nowhere: a great disturbance in the Force spanned the galaxy, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. Could it have been another Death Star, or even a Sun Crusher? Leia had barely even recovered when she had to put the thought aside and attend the event. An event soon to be ruined in a fiery flame. Join Kristine Kathryn Rusch in her first Star Wars novel, Bantam Spectra’s The New Rebellion. The mysterious will leave any reader reading on for more, a true star wars epic. The beginning began very mysteriously and as the book drew on, questions had been answered. Once the book had been entirely finished, it really left me appreciating all of the little things that were hidden throughout the book which actually had meaning in the end. ( )

The plot is seriously sub-standard, even for something in this series, and there are times when Rusch works in lines from the original movies that I would pay good money to see no-one ever use again (starting with "I've got a bad feeling about this" and working from there). The characterisation is better than normal, though, and it's passably well-written - putting it far above the normal run of single volume SW books. About the level of an average fanfic, really. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
This group is dedicated to four groups of special people:

First, to the old friends who say with me in that darkened theater in Duluth, Minnesota, on May 25, 1977: Mindy Wallgren-Holte, Janine (Plunkett) McCusker, Kevin O'Neill, and Daniel W. Bergman. I miss you all and wish you well.
Second, to the nieces and nephews who, as children, helped me experience the excitement anew: Tim Rusch, Priscilla Wolfe, Kathy McNally, Kristine Hofsommer, Knute Hofsummer, and Aaron J. Reynolds.
Third, to the friends of the heart who have never lost their sense of wonder: Kevin J. Anderson, Paul B. Higginbotham, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, and Dean Wesley Smith.
And finally, to George Lucas, for giving me so many hours of enjoyment, and to John Williams, whose exceptional score still makes me shiver with delight.
