A beautiful story of a ywell to do young woman who goes to live in the mountains at a mission to be a school teacher. she struggles with the way she sees these people living and overcomes the want to leave. She struggles with the love she has for two very different men. A story that help[s you realize that you need to follow your heart. Quite touching. "Christy" is the fictionalized, true story of Catherine Marshall's mother's young life. Christy is a young woman at the turn of the century inspired to share knowledge. Her quest takes her to a remote mountain town, Cutter Gap. There she struggles with and grows to love the community and culture that teach her about faith and love. Christy is a determine and naive character, "Probably for the first time in my life there won't be any temptation to spend money. It will be good for me." I was trying to sound gay. "Right in line with your ideas, father. For all I know there may not be a single store in Cutter Gap." Cutter Gap doesn't have a store the reader finds out and barely has a functional mail system. Christy quickly learns the rough Appalachian mountains are a far cry from her Carolina home. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Amazon.com Review (ISBN 0380001411, Mass Market Paperback)

When Christy Huddleston leaves a life of privilege and ease to teach in the impoverished Smokey Mountains, her faith is severely tested by her pupils, the love of two men, and the curious customs of the mountain people in her community. Yet she grows to love these people and the simple, fulfilling lifestyle to be found in the heart of God's country. First released in 1967, Christy is based on the life of author Catherine Marshall's mother and was the inspiration for the recent television series of the same name. Beautifully told, this is a charming, timeless tale of love and faith that will appeal to romance readers of all ages. --Maudeen Wachsmith
