Made into a tv show a few years back that captured the heart of the book. ( )"Christy" is the fictionalized, true story of Catherine Marshall's mother's young life. Christy is a young woman at the turn of the century inspired to share knowledge. Her quest takes her to a remote mountain town, Cutter Gap. There she struggles with and grows to love the community and culture that teach her about faith and love. Christy is a determine and naive character, "Probably for the first time in my life there won't be any temptation to spend money. It will be good for me." I was trying to sound gay. "Right in line with your ideas, father. For all I know there may not be a single store in Cutter Gap." Cutter Gap doesn't have a store the reader finds out and barely has a functional mail system. Christy quickly learns the rough Appalachian mountains are a far cry from her Carolina home. Wonderful book! This audio adaptation of Catherine Marshall's novel is read aloud by Kellie Martin. Classic story based on the author's mother's experiences working as a teacher among impoverished mountain people. no reviews | add a review
