Such a beautiful book. It straddles the line between truth and fiction; the ending is especially meta. But it's phenomenal. You can feel the pain and hope behind these words, which is so fitting and especially accomplished, since the main theme of the text discusses the problems we have expressing ourselves, the difficulties in finding words to narrate our experiences.

Some of my favorite lines:

je crève

parlez-moi

parlez-moi

si vous trouviez
les mots dont j'ai besoin
vous me délivreriez

And I could pick out a dozen more quotations. It's a gorgeous novel about childhood, writing, country life, poverty, learning, depression, and most importantly, mothers. ( )
