While you think this story is just about two little circles it it much more than that. As a child this book has one meaning and as an adult it takes on a completely different meaning. This book is all about acceptance and being accepting of others no matter what the color. It makes you think after reading this book. ( )

Summary: This story is about two small dots who love to hang out together. One day when they are hanging out they hug and end up changing colors and there parents get worried about where they are. Once they finally get separated and their parents understand what happened they all hang out and have fun together.
Genre Critique: This story would be considered a Fantasy because in real life colors and dots could not talk to each other or hang out in friend like settings.
Character Critique: The yellow and blue dots could be considered very dynamic because they experience multiple changes through the story. They start as friends then once they hug they change color then end up changing colors back.

I loved this book! For being a children's book it is so deep and meaningful. I think that it is a wonderful book to share with children and just ask them what they think about it. While they may not get it on a level as deep as we adults do I think they could come up with some pretty close ideas. The story is all about acceptance and when you look at the time it was written around it helps to put a lot in perspective. It is a fantastic book! ( )

This is a deceptively complex little picture book and one I have gone back and forth on. The illustrations are wonderful and I believe their simplicity help children find the value and meaning in their own art work, regardless of their technical skill. The story deals with friendship and color, a tricky topic to cover with colors and figures so displaced from real life. I think it is an important contribution to a classroom library but should be read aloud and discussed with guidance at some point, so students come away with positive, cohesive ideas. ( )

LIttle blue and little yellow is a simple story of friendship. One day, little yellow and little blue hug and become one green dot. After this, their parents fail to recognize either one of them, which I find a tad bit morbid. After the devastating rejection from their families, they try and once again become two separate colors, thus reuniting them with their parents. This story is simple and delightful for younger readers, but on a mature and deeper level, an inference of a moral involving diversity can be made. The matter of rejection of a "different" color places emphasis on a racial aspect of the story. But, for younger readers, it is mostly a lesson in primary and secondary colors. ( )
