Bear and Bird play hide and go seek, a new game to Bear. Liking it, having played it all day with Bird, he asks the moon to play. Easily, the moon spots Bear hiding in a hollowed out tree. When it comes for the moon’s turn to hide, it hides behind a big cloud. Bear searches high and low for the moon, mistaking a flower, a wheel of cheese, and a yellow balloon for it. Eventually Bird teams up with Bear again and they beseech the other animals of the forest to search. Giving up, Bear signifies his defeat to the moon. The moon appears from the clouds and Bear smiles and dances; the image of bear dancing incited a great joy within myself. The sequence of events the pictures dictate, along with the story are executed cleverly, hilariously, and reflect a spellbound glorification of nature, for what the author imagines it to be: childlike, innocent and beautiful (An example, Mr. Asch turns the moon into an active character, capable of playing children’s games such as hide and go seek). I really enjoyed this book. ( )I thought the book would be good for 1st -k. You could read this book while learning about the moon. At the end of the book you should ask the class if the moon could come out of the sky and play hide and go seek to avoid any confusion. 0.131 seconds to build listing no reviews | add a review
