I had high hopes for this vintage but it turned out blah. Melodramatic, the heroine was so paranoid she may need to be locked up and I wanted to slap her half the time, a weird story that would have worked for being unique except it was unrealistic instead. I had pre-guessed the "secret twist" from a mile away before the hero even said it. ( )

Siana has been staying with her aunt and uncle for two years at their home on the beach in Scotland. (She was in a car accident a few years ago and has lost her memory.) Her aunt and uncle have just left to go on a holiday to Canada for a few weeks to visit relatives so she is now at the house all alone. She's happy at first, since she finally has some private time, to read and to do as she pleases. But one day, while collecting wood on the beach, she meets a man. His name is Matthew Craven, and he's been living a little way down the beach from her house, at Marine Cottage, for two months. (Her aunt and uncle have been encouraging Siana to stay away from the village and other people.) She's a little frightened of him---the way he watches her, as if he knew all about her. Eventually a snowstorm hits the area, and they end up staying at her home for awhile, and start to get to know each other better. Matthew is friendly and is trying to help jog her memory. He has many books, and one of them is on amnesia. They try a few techniques in the book and Siana slowly starts remembering things. She is also starting to fall for Matthew, even though he seems suspicious of her aunt and uncle, which is making Siana begin to question their motives.

This was a really good amnesia romance. I liked Matthew. He was a fashion photographer and he also painted. I liked how determined he was to try to help Siana get her memory back. I also liked Siana and how she grew from being a somewhat weak and helpless character to a stronger person. This was a sweet, captivating, and romantic read. ( )

Book description
She rejoiced in her newfound freedom!

It was Siana's first chance since the accident to prove that she could cope while her aunt and uncle were away.

The encounter with the stranger on the beach, however, soon spoiled Siana's pleasure. Then strange things began to happen.

Who was this stranger, Matthew Craven? Siana found him both frightening and attractive; she wished desperately he would leave her alone. But Matthew was adamant. He was there to help her whether she wanted him to or not.
