My, oh, my!!! ...

I express that form of joyous delight as the result of EVERYTHING about one of the most beautiful, and ingeniously informative, hardcover coffee table books that I've EVER owned. Yes, I'm raving about the Thomas B. Allen gem, Spectacular Chicago (Spectacular).

Duly titled, Spectacular Chicago pays homage to the Deep Dish Pizza Capital (Yeah, I said it!) in such a sensational way few books of a similar topic have ever: In-depth facts about both the city's native and immigrant inhabitants, its historied architecture - constructed by some of the most renowned Chicago-based men of their time in the architectonic Science, including: Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, William Drummond, Daniel Burnham and John Wellborn Root, William Holabird and Martin Roche, etc., the city's world-famous Lakefront and its many, many landmark structures, its tremendous parks and recreational centers, its second to none museum campus, its inimitable restaurants, its many diverse neighborhoods (Remember: Chicago is a City of Neighborhoods), the absolutely stunning photography showcasing this world-class city's magnificent beauty, etc., etc. Basically anything one would care to know about the great Chicago's infrastructure and her peoples. I speak, I should say, as a proud born and raised Windy City(zen).

There's a bit of something for everyone (from the aboriginal Chicagoan to the non-native alike) in the lovely (and large) Spectacular Chicago. It is truly a fun and educational coffee table book worth possessing. Five stars!
