... books from places other than the UK and USA, apart from that I have no fixed plan or idea! Currently Reading India - The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

I am in India with The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.

Just finished The White Tiger. The book is written as a letter to a Chinese diplomat, a device that allows the writer to not only tell his story but also explain Indian society and how it works. It's a fascinating look at the have-nots in India or anywhere and what keeps them there. Another ...

Outstanding review of The White Tiger, brenzi! That reminds me; I have his next book, Between the Assassinations, lying around here somewhere...

Bonnie- It looks like another solid review of White Tiger. I've had it buried in my tbr for months. Time for an excavation!

Nice review, brenzi. I had read White Tiger after I had been to India for the 2nd time, and I enjoyed the book a great deal because not only was he humorous, he could so easily have been one of the many thousands that I saw in the slums who did not have his temerity to refuse to accept his born ...

#53 The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga From my review: The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga tells the story of one’s man’s life dealing with the injustice of the caste system in India and of how he escaped and became an entrepreneurial success. This is not an uplifting story. I was not left ...

Started reading The White Tiger yesterday, so well written and interesting.

Today (Nov 30th), I'm reading Aravind Adiga's The White Tiger, and my list of pending (need to send) Bookmooches :)

... Nabokov. From the voluminous library of nzurisana, I've chosen The Stories of Vladimir Nabokov. I would recommend The White Tiger, a Booker prize winner.

Finished White Tiger even before my plane took off, but luckily I had to get rid of some currency at the airport and got Julie & Julia to read.

#16, White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. Another one for my winners category. The story of an Indian man and how he is making it in India. Good writing, disturbing story. Four stars.

... detailled and insightfull. Anyway, I understand why this book won the Booker prize, and I gave it five stars. #75 was White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. The Booker prize winner from last year, about a man (the white tiger) in India telling the story of his youth, his servant life and how ...

31. The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (321 pp.) The White Tiger is told by Balram Halwai and recounts the cutthroat nature of life in India. Halwai tells of life in the Darkness, of his education - and being forced to leave school to start work, of his father's undignified death, and of his ...

I've only read The White Tiger, Chicago, A Plague of Doves, Netherland, Lush Life, Indignation, and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. Of these, I consider Netherland and Lush Life worthy of a prize, and possibly A Plague of Doves although I thought the last part of it did not match ...

... but it is a bit of a 'forgettable' kind of book if you know what I mean. Certainly it's not really in the same league as The White Tiger or A Fine Balance. But I'd still recommend it as a good story!

34. Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams Bookbugg~ I liked The White Tiger, I thought it was a good book...although not really sure it deserved the Man Booker Prize. I will check out A Fine Balance too, thanks for the suggestion! I also want to read Q and A by Vikas Swarup ( ...

Oh, I loved The Bone People--though it was dark wasn't it? Loved The White Tiger too.

43. The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. To steal Stephen King's quote from the cover of Edgar Sawtelle, I flat-out loved it. Usually I steer well clear of Booker prize winners, on the basis that I'll be too dim to understand them properly (this may stem from The Bone People many years ago) but ...

>32 About The White Tiger, (spoilers ahead for those of you reading this who have not read the book yet!!) my interpretation of Balram's actions were that he was somewhat trapped by his poor upbringing and so he did what he felt he had to do, the only way he knew how. That doesn't make it ...

I thought that Booker award-winner, The White Tiger was excellent. It was kinda like Crime and Punishment meets The Vendor of Sweets.

I was rather disappointed by The White Tiger - it wasn't bad, but it didn't seem worthy of winning a major award to me.

21 : The White tiger by Aravind Adiga. A bit weird for me that this book won the Booker prize, but that's the case for book prizes in my country too, it's rather rare that the overall most appreciated book wins. Only good for one category : debut novels.

36. The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga Great book, definitely something I would highly recommend.

What did you think of White Tiger? I read it last weekend and wasn't that impressed by it.

but so far I've read: The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya and I am currently working on Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Wondering why Gough Whitlam : a moment in history and The White Tiger both offer each other as potential work combinations. There are editions of each with very close ISBNs, 184354721X and ISBN 1843547201, but the similarity ends there.
