Loading... Mila 18by Leon Uris
I read this a long time ago, and liked it just as much this time as I did years ago. It takes place in Poland, in the Warsaw ghetto as the Nazi's began their 'final solution' to the 'Jewish problem'. Hard to read and realize that it really happened, and humans can be horribly inhumane to one another. The people who lived through this were incredibly brave, and you close the book having great admiration for all of them. A wonderful read. ( )The blazing story of the uprising that defied Nazi tyranny and Wehrmacht tanks with homemade weapons and bare fists in the most heroic struggle of modern times. One of my favorite books. Covers the Holocaust in Warsaw from the german invasion to the destruction of the Warsaw Ghetto "Leon Uris's blazing novel is set in the midst of the ghetto uprising that defied Nazi tyranny, as the Jews of Warsaw boldly met Wehrmacht tanks with homemade weapons and bare fists. Here, painted on a canvas as broad as its subject matter, is the compelling of one of the most heroic struggles of modern times." This is an excellent fictional retelling of the Warsaw uprising of April, 1943. The characters are believable and even though you know how it's all going to turn out, you can't put the book down. It's surprising to me that it has never been filmed. I loved Leon Uris novels as an eary teen. |
