Again, have now added vocabulary like "fuckist" ( )This was a very good book, is funny and incredibly easy to read. Reading It made me think of what "home" is for me and how it is ultimately defined by your friends and what's familiar. It also is a good overview of the various types of women and a whole assortment of things that could go wrong with them: (a) she being a total bitch, (b) she being married to your friend, (c) the physical intimacy not being there, (d) the timing being all wrong in each other's lives. Lots of things can go wrong in life and if you're not careful you end up with all your friends being strangers. Anyway, it's a solid read. I recommend it. Very early pre-Western McMurtry, an extremely funny (and sentimental) take on college and just-past college realities, set in (a larger love song to) Texas 40 years ago. Although this is not necessarily a great book, it is fun to reread because it is fresh, and open, and young, rec by prof no reviews | add a review

Danny Deck is on the verge of success as an author when he flees Houston and hurtles unexpectedly into the hearts of three women: a girlfriend who makes him happy but who won't stay, a neighbor as generous as she is lusty, and his pal Emma Horton. It's a wild ride toward literary fame and an uncharted country...beyond everyone he deeply loves. All My Friends Are Going to Be Strangers is a wonderful display of Larry McMurtry's unique gift: his ability to re-create the subtle textures of feelings, the claims of passing time and familiar place, and the rich interlocking swirl of people's lives.
