While it took me awhile to get into the book, once I did, I throughly enjoyed it. It is a historical perspective on the struggle of Jews and the creation of Isreal. Much of it was eye opening to me. 2561 Exodus, by Leon Uris (read 28 Dec 1993) This 1958 book tells of a ship loaded with Jewish children which is gotten to Palestine. The book tells of various persons, clear back to 1884 when two teenagers walked from Russia to Palestine. The book is positively hagiographical as to all Jews, and there is no hint of objectivity. But it tells an inspiring tale, designed to make Jews proud of what has been accomplished in Israel. Of course, in 1958 Israel was only 10 years from its founding. But I don't think Leon Uris is a great writer and I don't believe I'll read anything more by him. [But I have.] Alice Magee The enduring story of the people who fought to create the modern State of Israel. Abandoned and set-up for failure by the British, a small group of Jews struggle against the Arab world, and the world at large, to re-establish a Jewish homeland. The struggle continues today and he story of these early settlers speaks to people of all religions of what can be accomplished with determination. no reviews | add a review
