I honestly don't remember anything about this story. Didn't make much of an impression at all. Not one of Pilcher's best. ( )

Victoria was in love with Oliver and living with him, when he told her he was marrying another. Non caringly, but she was pregnant and her parents wealthy. Two years later he showed up with child he had kidnapped from grandparents. He convinced her they knew and they moved to the wilds of Scott highlands. Once again he leaves her a note at the airport and left her with his son. A fire and a rich man were a great part of this story line. ( )

Once, before the bypass had been built, the main road ran through the heart of the village, a constant stream of heavy traffic that threatened to rattle the heart out of the gracious Queen Anne houses and the small shops with their bulging windows.

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0440202507, Mass Market Paperback)

When you read a novel by Rosamunde Pilcher you enter a special world where emotions sing from the heart. A world that lovingly captures the ties that bind us to one another-the joys and sorrows, heartbreaks and misunderstandings, and glad, perfect moments when we are in true harmony. A world filled with evocative, engrossing, and above all, enjoyable portraits of people's lives and loves, tenderly laid open for us...Oliver Dobbs was a writer first, and a man second. To him other people were tools. Even though he had broken Victoria Bradshaw's heart once, when he arrived on her doorstep with a two-year-old son, she found she could not refuse him, and the three of them set out for a castle in Scotland. There, Victoria meets the new laird and finds her crushed spirit awakening.
