Our protagonists come down on an unexplored planet where mental abilities have developed to a high degree and are able to defeat the (unprepared) technology. The details on how a non-technological civilization copes with the consequences of teleportation are fascinating, though the basic plot driving the story is a little lame. Of course technology comes to the rescue in the end to solve the final problem. And there's even an inter-species love story for those who like that kind of thing. I'd call it a satisfying, if undemanding, read. ( )A pilot and a scientist from a space-faring civilization investigate what appears to be a primitive society on a nearby planet. It turns out that most members of this race have an innate ability to teleport, and the two are captured after the rest of the team is killed. To survive, they must enlist the help of the crown prince, a "Witling," as unable to teleport as they are, and soon: the heavy metals in everyday foods will shortly kill them. The science seemed to overwhelm the story, and I disliked the female protagonist. Her story revolved around her insecurities about her appearance and interest in the prince. I much prefered "Marooned in Realtime" and "True Names". Clearly an early work with very little maturity. Definitely only recommended for young readers or for those who want to get the complete picture on the author's writing. no reviews | add a review
