I enjoyed the story of her life. She was always a star that I thought was down to earth and real. Reading her ups and downs was very interesting. The book was easy to read - felt more like having a conversation with her - very personal. I enjoyed it. ( )

I decided to read this book to learn about the journey Valerie was taking with her weight loss. I quickly found out it was more of a history lesson of her life, how she got to the point in her life where she decided to change. If you like Valerie Bertinelli you will like this book. If youre reading it for weight loss advice, forget it. Personally, I dont mind the idea of starting a book for one reason and coming out the other end with a totally different perspective. ( )

I always liked her bubbly personality, and she always seems like such a kind and friendly person. It was interesting to read the good, the bad, and the ugly. There were many things about her life that I could relate to. But also, there was enough of that start factor, that is totally different from how I could ever imagine living, and kept me turning the pages. She writes as I would imagine her speaking to me, and it is easy and even comfortable read. You could almost see your self sitting at her kitchen table and having a cup of coffee and becoming friends. You find yourself empathizing with her and cheering her on (you go girl!). And all the people she works with and the names she talks about… every night when DH came home I was saying “Did you know she dated…” or “did you know she knew...” I’m gonna make you read it, if you wanna find out who :P
Defiantly worth the read. ( )

interesting. Her husband had major issues with alcohol and drugs this effected her weight. Outside stresses effect you more than you realize ( )

Curiosity got the better of me when I decided to read this memoir. The writing was clear and straightforward and the time line was pretty straightforward. Ms. Bertinelli struggled with many of the same issues that other women struggle with - an accurate body image, poor self-esteem, an unwillingness to deal with things constructively - turning instead to food and anger. On the other hand, she's led the rarified life of an actress - early sex and drugs with little consequences. Her casual descriptions of the partners she had and the drug use she engaged in - all before she was 20 - left me cold. In addition, I found myself thinking "this is an example of the kind of people in Hollywood who think their evaluations of government and politics should somehow count more because they are famous - someone who didn't finish high school". Maybe it's the fervor of election year, but I wasn't impressed with the digs she made at her dad for being Republican. Overall, a straightforward description of her life that seemed fairly honest (though only the person who lives a life really knows how honest his or her descriptions of it are). I did enjoy the positive depictions of her ex-husband, Eddie Van Halen. That was refreshing that she didn't feel the need to bad-mouth him. ( )
