[close] While searching the bleak shelves of my local library for anything of interest, I came across this slim and unassuming volume. It had been checked out in October of 1968 and October of 1973, and that was it. A fan of folklore and old sayings about the weather, I was intrigued, so I checked it out.

When I got home, I found Sloane had a good system for debunking/proving teh sayings about weather I had always wondered about, as well as many I had not heard. His style was easy and knowledgeable if not a little nerdy, and what he said was fascinating. In short, it was one of the best books I had come across in a long time. I'm very glad I found it. When it comes time to do 4-H weather posters, I'm sure I will check this wonderful resource out once more, like visiting an old friend. ( )
